Land Rover Repair: range rover turn signal, electrical responses, washer fluid

Question
hello John, I have a 95'classic> I started experiencing a problem with the brake/turn signal? when i would press on the brake pedal the turn signal indicator on the dash would illuminate only to about 50% of it's brightness.the signals would work until i depressed the brake then they would stay lit and the brake lights would flash, this happened for two days went away then when i depressed the pedal the front window washer fluid would shoot out, after one day this went away now when i use the turn signals they just blink as if the hazards are on w/ or w/o the brake pedal depressed, i've had this rover for years and this is the first time this has happened. i suspect a multi function unit but info on this part is rare.  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Tony,

let's hope it's not the Body control unit and something easy.  I have seen strange electrical responses, like yours, when there is an electrical short.  It could be a bulb holder that has become corroded.  I suggest you check ALL your outside light bulb holders to determine if they are corroding - especially the rear lights (brakes and turn signal lights).  Look at both the wiring leading into the socket AND look inside the socket itself.  IF you see any corrosion, this may be the cause of trouble.  Replace any bulbholders that you find corroded.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
