Answer
Hi Steve,

for your Disco, I think it can be reset by an OBDII reader.  Advance auto and Autozone are two part stores that will do this for you for free. Nice promo.

You may want to purchase an OBDII reader for your Disco II.  You can find them for under $100 on sale.

I found an old thread that you may have referred to in resetting the SES light:

to clear the codes & reset the light you need to look under the glove box for a white connector with two wires coming in & one wire going out, it will have white & black wires. turn you key on & wait for the dash lights to go through their sequence then unplug the connector. wait about 15-20 seconds then plug the connectors back together & turn the key off. you will hear the main relay under the passengerside seat drop about 5 or 6 seconds after you turn the key off. turn the key back on & see if the cel goes out. if it doesn't, you had more than one code & you will have to clear it the same way.

I don't know if this is a good method but thought I'd mention it.

I would prefer you use the OBDII reader reset.

There is an interesting number of threads on www.discoweb.org that discuss this subject.  Check out the DISCOVERY Technical forum and search for SES or Service Engine Soon light.

Best of luck,
