Land Rover Repair: no start/water drenched ECU, water seal, eproms

Question
i have a 1997 discovery,4.0 with water in the ecu. got a used one from scrapyard but still won't start. no spark. was wondering if the used ecu had to be reprogrammed to vehicle or if i just got another bad ecu. the truck will run with the old ecu but not all coils are firing

Answer
Hi Phil,

you could try swapping out the EPROMS from your old ECU to the new ECU.

Shame your ECU was flooded.  Check the seal and possibly be creative and water seal the new one.

Usually, GEMS have to be reprogrammed by testbook.

Hope is the coilpack?  IF the ECU was soaked, was the coil damaged too?

Best of luck,

JohnMC

NB: I answered a recent Q about this, older ECU's are plug and play, GEMS are plug and pray.
