Land Rover Repair: Gear shift, land rover discovery, excessive fuel

i have a 94 manual transmission land rover discovery. everytime, i change the gears, there is a noise underneath and sometimes, it gets difficult to change as well. can you tell me what the problem is.

Also, recently, i have noticed that the car is drinking much more fuel tha before, and sometimes, i get a fuel smell inside the car. i've checked for leaks, and there's nothing. what do you think is the problem.

Since I have never worked on a Disco with manual transm., I do not know the answer. The problem may be with the clutch or maybe internal transm. problem, really not sure. Sorry...
As far as the excessive fuel consumption: is the service engine soon light on? If so, it needs to be checked out since there may be a problem with the engine control system. As far as the fuel smell, you might want to have the fuel tank checked also, I believe there's a recall on them (replacement).
