Land Rover Repair: Freelander Td4 blue smoke, valve seals, oil consumption

Question
Hi

My 2002 Freelander Td4 has started blowing blue smoke under exceleration.  The smoke has a oil spell.  Importantly the engine is using oil, about 200ml every 2500kms.  Current mileage is 135,000km.

I have to determine weather to repair, or trade?.  A repair job may be the beginning of other issues? Any advice will be appreciated

Charlie

Answer
The level of oil consumption you describe is normal.  Engines like yours can use 1 litre of oil in 2,500km.  Your consumption is way less than that.

Smoke could be clogged injectors, an old injection pump, worn valve seals . . . there are many possibilities.

If it smokes a lot you have may a problem but if it's just some blue smoke on full throttle takeoff I would not be too concerned.  Older Rovers tend to do that.
