Land Rover Repair: Discovery oil light, blown engine, land rover dealer, land rover usa

Question
Hi John,
I have a 2003 discovery, my problem is exactly what you described to some one else in a question date 03/28/06.  My oil light went on, engine began to make clunking sound, car stalled and wont re start.  I have 46K miles on the car, and was 5 days out of the warranty.  Had the car towed to local Rover dealer, who made it clear that they wont touch it under warranty.  I wanted to find out were I can get more information on the March 14,2003 technical alert that mentioned that addresses the oil pump problem.  I have only owned the vehicle for less than 4 months, bought it from a large Nissan dealer.  Land Rover USA, informed me that prior to my owning it, the car had been in for warranty work involving an oil pan leak.  I want to approach them with the tech alert, get my car fixed.  Any suggestions.  thanks

Answer
Any Land Rover dealer can look up the bulletin from the information you cited.  They should all know about the front cover/oil pump issue.

You can also subscribe to www.landrovertechinfo.com for a day for $18 and print and read all the service info for your truck, but that isn't necessary for this . . .

That said, a service bulletin is not a recall notice.  Land Rover is not obligated to fix your out-of-warranty truck for free.  I suggest you take it to the dealer and call LR customer relations.

No matter what, you are probably going to have to pay to take the motor apart to see what's wrong.  Only then can the LR factory rep make a decision on goodwill coverage, if any.
