-----Question-----
I exported a 1998 Range Rover, 4.6 to Ghana in West Africa. Vehicle got there and was driven for 4 months without any hitches until it started indicating "gearbox overheat". Not long after (local mechanic checked for lack of transmission oil and replaced), the transmission would not shift out of Park!. Same mechanic diagnosed a faulty transmission!. After a lot of pain and finances, transmission was removed, certain components changed? and re-installed (not replaced). Car will now not reverse and 3rd speed does not shift smoothly enough. I have been told buy a "Brain valve body component".

I need an expert advise urgently...

I hate hearing stories like this.  You sound like you are suffering from inept service providers.  Stories like yours are what give our industry a bad name.

The gearbox overheat message is almost always a faulty switch in the transmission cooler line.

The failure to shift out of part is usually a bad stop lamp switch or a security interlock problem in the shifter.

Of course, your problems may have been different, but I see thousands of Range Rovers, and the vast majority with your symptoms suffer from those problems.

Taking the transmission apart was probably a complete waste, and who knows what they screwed up when they did it.

Sorry.

Answer
Given your location, perhaps you best option would be to purchase a transmission in the USA and have it shipped over there.

You can buy a factory exchange unit for $3500 or so, or a used unit for $1500 or less here in the USA.

I suggest calling Rovers North, 802 879 0032 or emailing  www.roversnorth.com and see what they can do re shipment to you.
