Land Rover Repair: 2001 DISCOVERY MOVES IN PARK, shift linkage, park position

Question
WHEN PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK THE VEH WILL NOT LOCK INTO PARK, I HAVE TO PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE THEN PARK IN ORDER TO GET THE VEH TO "LOCK" INTO PARK. WHAT COULD BE WRONG

Answer
It is possible there is a problem with the adjustment of your shift linkage.  Put the car up on a lift and make sure the lever on the gearbox is fully shoved into the park position.  If it's not you can adjust the cable so it is.

If that does not work you will have to remove the transmission and repair the park pawl, which is in the rear part of the gearbox.
