Land Rover Repair: Freelander cab fire, acrid smell, forensic expert

Question
Hi Dennis
My Freelander 2001 TD4 burned itself to the ground. The fire started just after start up. I was leaving home when I noticed the acrid smell inside the cab. I pulled over to the side and cut the engine when I saw the smoke coming from the console between the two front seats. It was coming through the button that controls the passenger side window. Flames followed and within less than a minute the fire engulfed the entire cab.The materials inside were far too flammable. My insurance company is sending a forensic expert to try to find the cause. It smelled like electrical. Do you have any ideas? I would like to compare notes

Answer
I'm glad you're OK!  I have never heard of this before (that doesn't mean it hasn't happened) but the smell of an electrical fire in un-mistakable, also if you saw smoke from the switch, that's a pretty good indicator.

Without being there I can't give you a definite answer though.
