Land Rover Repair: timing belt replacement, timing belt replacement, head gaskets

Question
hi
i wonder if you could help me. i am in the process of replacing the head gaskets on a freelander v6 2.5 petrol. the engineers have re faced and pressure tested the heads but had to strip the cams out of one of them. so now we have not got any timing references because we haven't any timing tools for the v6. we marked the front pulley on each head but the pulley is on a vernier slot to enable correct tensioning of the belt. the rear cam pulley timing marks are only on one pulley and nothing to line up with.
is there any way we can set it up without having to purchase timing tools. the main dealers in our area have not got the tools and have never done any head gaskets on a v6.

Answer
I think it would be very risky trying to assemble a Freelander without the factory tools.  We tried ourselved and could not do it, and we ended up waiting a week for the tools on that job.

They are like the newer Audis in that the cam timing can just be anywhere without the jig.  It's not just "one tooth either way" like older cars
