Land Rover Repair: 2002 Freelander V6 Auto problem gear box, speed sensors, good afternoon

Question
Good afternoon,
My 2002 V6 Freelander has developed a problem with it's auto gear box. This is that the change up an down the box has become very harsh - In fact sometimes it is like a crash box on a manual gear box - like the clutch isn't being used. The vehicle has done just 27,000 miles and up intil last week was running very smoothly.
I have been told that the Jatco gear box used in these vehicles can suffer from failures in their speed sensors... Please can you try and through some like on my best coarse of action to get this fixed. Barry

Answer
In situations like yours the most common remedyis a factory exchange gearbox.

You could go to a dealer or someone with the Land Rover test system and they might find wiring or controller trouble.

And you can also check fluid level.

But usually it's an internal failure in the box.
