Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery door windows 1997, white lithium grease, land rover discovery

Question
Both my front door windows have failed in the up position, they move down an inch and then stop. the motor also stops. I have taken everthing off as per your instructions for getting at the windows, but can see nothing wrong. Any other suggestions!?? They sort of look if they have come off rails, but only moving an inch makes me discount that, but something has moved out of kilter

Answer
Hi Michael,

are the rails well lubricated?  White lithium grease will prevent water from damaging this rails.  Could be the window actuators (motors) that have failed.  Check the wiring to be sure.

The best method would be to remove the motors and bench test them.  If they work with 12v direct then you have to look at the wiring and the switches.  It's also been found that the ecu that controls the doors and windows can fail.  Again, you'll have to bench test this to determine if it is at fault.

Best of luck,
