Land Rover Repair: Vibration Accelerating and Decelerating, vibration problems, wheel alignment

Hi John,

I have a Disco I 99, 3.9 Petrol Engine. I thought I had my vibration problems solved when my local garage appeared to fix the problem. I think they said they had to adjust the shocks. Anyway the vibration suddenly appeared again this morning. If I put the engine in neutral and rev the engine, it sounds good and smooth. When I have engaged the engine the vibration is there when accelerating and decelerating with my foot off the pedal.  The feeling is that the engine is running slightly rough but not to the extent that it is missing. It appears more noticeable accelerating through 80 km but reduces over 100 km.  At the moment the vibration is not that noticeable through the steering. I have read some of the other vibration problems on this site but nothing that sounds as similar. Any ideas?

Best Regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

vibration only at high speeds?  Wheels, driveshaft, transfer gearbox, tranny.  How about your balljoints?  When was your last wheel alignment?

Best of luck,

Thanks John,

I looked at the last invoice and it clearly showed that they repaired the driveshaft (rather than the shocks). The vibration is there at all speeds.  In the last service the wheels were aligned (about three weeks ago). The ball joints visually look ok. I guess it will have to go back to the garage for some troubleshooting, I think their repair has failed. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Tony,

depends on how long it was since the driveshaft was replaced.  Could be an underlying problem that is affecting the driveshaft.

Clearly, you'll need them to inspect your drivetrain.  Let's hope it as simple as the parking brake drum pads.

Best of luck,
