Question
Fuel pressure is around 40 psi, has new in-line fuel filter.  Engine will break up (like a rev limiter is kicking in)in all five gears at higher rpm (2600 plus).

Question -
1998 Tacoma 2wd pickup, 3400cc V6, manual trans.
Engine revs break up fairly low in the rpm range, can't really rev up engine at all.  Air filter good, fuel filter new, new plugs, all three coil packs check out good, fuel pump pressure is good, mass air sensor is good.  No fault codes being set, no usable information obtained with Snap-On scan tool.

Answer -
A misfire will turn the check engine light on and set a trouble code, not sure what is going on, possibly low fuel pressure, it will cause a loss of power without turning on the check light.
Have the fuel pressure tested or just replace the fuel filter first to see if it helps.

Answer
Thanks for the reply, the only other thing I can think of is that there may be a restriction in either the intake or exhaust system, remove the air filter and check the air intake tube to the throttle body, it wouldn't be the first time that a rag was left inside restricting air flow. The other cause may be a restriction in the exhaust system, maybe a catalityc converter that is disintegrating, it's possible but not very probable and I have seen this happen also.
