Des Mullan, the director?  nice to help you.

Hi Des,

so it was the driveshaft?  Ouch!  That's not a common component to fail.  As for being unreliable, I understand your point and agree that we owners have to live with too many compromises from a vehicle with such a rich history and price tag.

If you need a replacement, check out the salvage yards for a better price (www.car-part.com).  I'm sure you'll find a replacement driveshaft for a fraction of what the dealer will charge.  If you need help with installation let me know.  I may not be able to pass you the wrench but I'm willing to find install instructions should you need them.

Hi des Mullan,

could be spark/ignition related.  I recently had two spark plug wires fail on my Disco.  As the same symptoms that you describe. As I reached higher speeds, the vibrations smoothed out.  Wires were less than 1 year old.  Seems the dealership sold me a set that was comprised of 'singles'.  They were grey and not the usual blue HT leads.

When I pulled the wires off and checked spark plugs, I found that two were not firing properly.  Closer inspection revealed that the wires had shorted out at the boot connector (internals were jet black from arcing).

Consider sparkplug/wires or coilpack as first suspects.

Best of luck,
