Land Rover Repair: 1999 Land rover disco - AntiLock light on, abs light, error condition

Question
Hi John,

I have a 1999 Disco. I find out the Anti-lock light on when start and keeps on even I use R gear. But it goes of when I put in D gear. Is it a big problem? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Eric,

ABS light indicates an error condition has been detected with the Anti-lock Brake System.  This is a common problem with LR's and the cause can be a number of components:

brakes need maintenance, sensors faulty, ABS pump failure to name but a few items.

If you are unfamiliar with LR repair, best to leave this with the dealer or a certified LR mechanic.

Best of luck,

NB:  some owners are so upset with the problem that they ignore the ABS light.  I've known some to remove the bulb from the dashboard.
