Land Rover Repair: Ignition Key - Intermittent inability to remove, tiny teeth, new keys

Question
I have a 1997 Landrover Discovery 1 (3.9 petrol). From time to time I have problems removing the key from the ignition switch. It comes out only after extensive fiddling with it. No one, even the local dealer has been able to solve this problem. Please help! Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Rakhib,

sounds like the lock tumblers are worn down.  Over time, the key can score the tiny teeth/tumblers inside the lock mechanism.  You can either lubricate the lock with fine oil (contact a locksmith for this) or replace the ignition lock altogether.

A new ignition switch also comes with new keys.

Best of luck,
