Land Rover Repair: Disco TD5 Auto Transmission, coolant line, discovery td5

Question
Hi John,
I have owned a 2000 Discovery TD5 series 2 Auto in Australia for several months. Trouble free, great car. I am now asking it to tow my boat which only weighs 1100kgs incl. trailer but I've towed in some pretty warm weather, the last time well over 35oC for 300km and even with the air con going the temperature gauge stayed right where it should. I'm only concerned about the transmission in the long term: Does this car have a built in trans oil cooler? Would you recommend fitting an auxiliary unit? Any other tips or hints on towing with an auto TD5 would be very welcome!
Thanks for your great public spririt!
Cheers, Tony.

Answer
Hi Tony,

yes there is a coolant line into the rad for the tranny. As for an aux cooler, I'm not aware of one.  Try www.roverparts.com to see if they have one.

So far, you're doing ok...just give the tranny a rest every so often on those long hauls.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
