Land Rover Repair: Service Engine/Check Engine lights, high octane fuel, engine management system

Question
John,
I have a 99 Disc with 84k miles.  I just returned from a long trip, and like the other gentleman you responded to, my vehicle's service engine light came on the day after my return (300 miles).  I tried filling up with high octane fuel and an cleaner additive along with an oil change, but the next day my Check Engine light appeared. Now I have Two lights on!  I tried your idea of removing the neg bat cable, but the lights still came on after I reconnected
Any Ideas??

Answer
Hi Chris,

the SES is an emission reminder.  The Check Engine light is another matter.  Its usually EMS related (engine management system), and the fault codes would really help.

Do you have an OBDII reader?  If not, go to Advance Auto... these guys are really helpful.  They'll read your codes and give you a rough idea where to look.

Let me know what you find,

JohnMc

NB: of course, you always drive with at least 91 Octane...right?
