Land Rover Repair: front brake and brake light replacement, inhibitor switch, brake pads

Question
Upon replacing the front brake pads and the left brake light on a 1998 Discovery, the very next day the car would not switch off, it continues to run unless I press the brake pedal and then turn off the ignition switch.....The panel lights come on very dimly, but still cannot turn the car off unless I simultaneously press the brake pedal and turn it off. Could something have gone awry when I replaced the bulb? I dont know how much sense this makes to you, but please help!...

Answer
Hi Rosetta,

very strange.  I doubt it has anything to do with your brake pads.  Do you still have the old brake lightbulb?  Was the replacement bulb the same type?  Swap out the current bulb and put back the old bulb.  Do you still have the same problem.

I've seen some strange things with Lucas electrical but this is one of the best so far.

Check to make sure all lights are working on your Disco.   Let me know if the replacement bulb is identical to the old one.

It's possible that there is a problem with the park inhibitor switch and the brake pedal switch.  What could have caused this...anyone's guess.

While I await your reply, I'll ask around to see what else you could do.
