Land Rover Repair: 1999 dico II How To?, fuel injection problems, socket sizes

Question
John,
Hey- I wrote on the 21st about the "1999 dico II engine sputtering on exeleration." You gave me back an excellent response, so I took your lead and ran with it. Here are the codes:1300- Boost Calibration Fault?, 1390- Octane Adjust Pin Out  of Self Test Range?, 305,308- Misfire in Cylinders 5 and 8. Ok, I hope the 305 and 308 are what my problem is, and that all I need to do is change wires and plugs. Not real sure about the other two and/or could they be causing the problem? If you will John let me also know  where to find "HOW TO" sites to change the plugs, wires and also what tools I should need.
Thank You--what a great web site.

Answer
Hi Josh,

lets hope its just the plugs or wires for 5 and 8.  The codes could also indicate fuel injection problems.

P1300 reads "Catalyst damaging misfire multiple cylinders Drive cycle C: Signal out of range - above maximum"

A good site for you would be http://www.disco2.com

They have a TECH section and forums where you can meet other Disco II owners and swap knuckle busting stories and socket sizes!

Also, try this website for tech tips:

http://groups.msn.com/LRDiscovery

It describes how to remove the air intake so one can get to those rear wire and plugs.  Has great tips on brakes, downloadable docs and pics too.

To change your wires and plugs, spark plug socket is about all you need (and strong hands for those nasty spark plugs).

Best of luck,

JohnMc
