Land Rover Repair: Intermitent Power Hesitation, valve job, carbon buildup

Question
I have a Disco '98 LSE 99,000 miles, I'm having problem with the engine, power loss once in awhile for about 2-3 seconds then power come back up again for several times this make the check engine comes on. Have it diagnose and told me that its a misfire and it need a complete Valve Job,Engine is running fine but at least once a week I have this hesitation.  Please be advise,  do I really need a Valve job as per diagnose or there is any alternative to take of this problem need some help.

Answer
Hi Ronnie,

there is a common problem with sticking exhaust valves.  Carbon buildup deposits are causing the exhaust valves to stick and thus robbing you of power.  It is most obvious when your engine is fully warmed up and can also be seen on hot, humid days.

Here's a website that describes the problem in greater detail.  Download the pdf document for an interesting read:

IF you've taken your Disco into a dealer or LandRover specialist and they've diagnosed the problem, a valve job is the only cure.  Additives and cleaners cannot help on the exhaust side of the engine which burns at high temperatures.

Best of luck,
