Tips on Buying Cars: too good to be true?, nissan 240 sx, nissan skylines

Question
ok this one is kinda long but bear with me. Im in the Marine Corps and for years i have wanted an Nissan Skyline GTR. I just started working in our post office and i met a guy who claims he is into cars and owns his own shop because of a family inheritance. he also claims that him and his shop are the creaters for alot of the cars you see in the fast and the furious tokyo drift and the toyota supra that was in the first one. he said that universal studios rented those cars from them. me and him were talking one day and i told him i wanted a skyline. he said he could make it happen by taking a nissan 240 sx with a skyline engine already in it and turn it into one with a skyline body plus other work he wants to do to it. so it would basically be like me having a nissan skyline. he claims he bought the 240 sx from a private seller here in california. he said hes willing to sell me the car plus all the body work and neons and all the fast and the furious stuff for 7,000. nissan skylines stock cost at least 80,000 and are very hard to get into the states. i wanna know if i should trust him or not. he said him and his shop are gonna start putting the body on it tonight. i really dont know if i can trust this. i really want this car but i need to know if this is too good to be true. can you give me some tips i can use to see if hes a fake or the real deal?

Answer
James,

There isn't any easy answer to your question.  It all boils down to your GUT FEELING for the guy.  I'm not there, so i can't tell you that.  What I can tell you is that yes it does sound WAY to good to be true.  I'm not sure I would trust this guy, but that is me.

Ultimately it is a decision that is based on you.

Sorry I can't help out much more than that.

Thanks - jb
