Land Rover Repair: 97 Land Rover Disco SE7 Radio Problems, land rover discovery, sony cdx

Question
I have a 97 Land Rover Discovery SE7. One of the previous owners had taken out the original facotry radio and replaced it, and then when selling the car had put the original factory radio back in.

The radio does not work, it has never worked for me. Originally when I turned on the radio, no lights would come on, but after unplugging the wires connected to it and plugging them back in, and replacing the fuse, I got all the the lights, except for the number 4,5 & 6 buttons, to come on.

But still the radio does nothing, nothing on the screen no sound, nothing.

Is there a way to diagnose what is wrong with it? Where can I find wiring diagrams and so forth?

If I need to replace it I would like to make sure that it is the unit and not the wiring, or vise-vera.

Also, does any radio work with the Land Rover, or do I need to get one from the factory?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Daniel

Daniel,

the website I mentioned also provides instructions to remove your Disco's radio AND wiring diagrams...as you requested.  They do this as a free service but you can donate a couple of bucks if you so choose.

Hi Daniel,

could be that the LED's on those numbered buttons are 'fried'.

Here is a website that services LR radios and may even have corrective steps to help you restore your original radio (for a small fee).  They also sell radios that replace the original in your Disco.

I have been told that Sony has a CD player that interfaces well with the Disco I's.  One fellow owner wrote that he bought a Sony CDX-4000X for about $250.  Many years ago, another owner informed me that a Sony CDX434RF was compatible.  Both are not confirmed by me.  Perhaps its something you could ask the stereo experts mentioned above.

I'm sure there are radios that will interface with the Disco.  If you do find one and it works for you, please let me know.  I will pass the info to other owners (like you) who ask for advice.

Best of luck,
