Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery SE7 1997 Radio Problems, land rover discovery, brake warning light

Question
Hello;

I own a 1997 Land Rover Discovery SE7. It is an automatic and has a V8 engine that runs on petro. The gear select box and dash board lights work fine (as far as I can tell) when the head lights are off. Once the head lights are turned on the dash board lights do not come on, and the gear box lights stop illuminating and go dark. Furthurmore the radio does not work, when it is turned on the unit glows green and all but three buttons light up, but nothing more happens (this is true for both when the head lights are turned on and off). The anti-lock brake warning light remains illuminted on the dash board while the head lights are on and off.

Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Daniel

Answer
Hi Daniel,

you could have a couple of problem here.  The lights not working 'normally' usually indicates that a bulb or fuse has blown somewhere in series.  Its also possible that a wire is shorting out, perhaps due to corrosion.  Inspect all the outside lights that are exposed and look for corroded terminals within the bulbholders.  This will become more common as your Disco gets older.

The ABS light is probably related to faults within the ABS system.  It could be wheel sensors, ABS modulator, something has triggered this fault.  You'll need expert help with this one.

Best of luck,
