Land Rover Repair: heat/service engine light/, land rover hse, discoweb org


Question
the heat is not working, but the air is and all controls. also the service enginr light is on because the gas cap was not put in properly. are there any short cuts for this. I live in a town with out a dealer. 2001 land rover hse 4.6 70k

also check your thermostat. If it fails (remains open), it often affects how little heat is allowed to enter the interior.  Replace the thermostat and flush the system.  I use Prestone products (no endorsement just a fact).

Hi Jeff,

so your blower motor is working but you have no heat.  This problem could be associated with your heater core.  Could be a blockage of some sort.  

You could flush the coolant from your engine and radiator, perform a rad flush, then either refill or replace the coolant.  I've known owners who drain their coolant, filter it and reuse it.  I guess this is ok but I'd use new coolant. At the same time, you can also pressure test your coolant system to look for leaks.

As for the Service Engine light, its new to me that a loose gas cap could cause this light to trigger.  Here is a website that illustrates how to reset the Service Engine light:
