Land Rover Repair: 99 Disco II rear door stuck!, spray lubricant, latch system

Question
Help!

The rear door of my 99 Discover II is stuck! It feels like the door didn't shut properly, but I cant lock it into place. When I pull on the door handle it does not move at all. I've tried opening it from the inside as well, but nothing. I can hear the lock slamming up and down (normal) but nothing seems to be helping.  I use the door everyday, so this sucks! Please help!

Answer
Hi (    ),

you, me and about 40,000 other Disco owners!  This is a common problem.  Best solution is preventative...once you get that 'frickin' door open!  Use lots of spray lubricant in and around the latch and handle.

You may have to crawl into the rear compartment and dismantle the door panel to reveal the latch system.  Once revealed, have someone lift up the door and pull open as you manually release the latch.  To do this, watch which levers move as someone open and closes the locks on your doors.  Spray a generous amount of lithium lubricant in and around the latch.

I believe that the long connecting rod running vertical is used to adjust the lock and can be turned clockwise or anti-clockwise to adjust.

On the door handle (exterior), you can remove the LandRover oval and spray inside around the door handle lever.  Have plenty of rags available to absorb the excess.

Best of luck,
