Land Rover Repair: Discovery turbo, vacuum leak, line leak

Question
I have a 1996 2.5tdi discovery automatic.   Particularly whilst
towing my caravan or trailer, when climbing hills or overtaking(
ie when under load conditions) the turbo seems to falter and not
want to exceed about 3000-3500 rpm.   I would be pleased if
you could give me some advice as to the potential problem and
how to test or rectify it myself.

Many thanks.

Answer
Hi John,

here are a few possible causes:

timing belt adjustment or replacement needed,
fuel filter,
ignition timing adjustment,
faulty fuel pump,
fuel line leak,
low cylinder compressions,
vacuum leak,
faulty injectors,
injection pump timing incorrect,
wax forming in fuel.

Hope this helps.
