Land Rover Repair: locked ignition, land rover discovery, time steve

Question
Hi John.  I have a 2001 Land Rover discovery.  Today I got up for work, put the key in the ignition and the key would not turn.  I have had this problem before and usually after wiggling the key a few times it will turn.  I notice that the gear shifter is not locked into park and that I can move it throughout all the gears.  Perhaps I turned the truck off too quickly before it was completely in park?
I have tried many things like turning the wheel, adjusting the wheel tilt and the wd-40 trick but nothing is working.
Any ideas?!

Thanks for your time!
Steve

Answer
You almost certainly need a new ignition lock.  It's also possible that your key is worn out but usually when the keys are worn out, the locks are too.  There is no other hidden part that would be preventing the key from turning from the locked position
