Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery II ACE Pump, land rover discovery, alternator problem

Question
We had our 2000 Disco in to repair the ACE system because the amber warning light kept appearing.  First time they charged us to replace the "brain".  Before we were back from the dealer, the light re-appeared, this time we took it in and got charged to repair a hydraulic leak.

This time LR delivered the vehicle and the light was on before their driver got it to our house (about 5 miles).  LR told us not to worry and that we could drive it until we got it back to them to correct the problem again.

After about 70 miles, we could smell something hot and could hear some minor screeching noises.  I soon pulled over and raised the hood to find one edge of the serpentine belt frayed and the top right component connected to the belt(while looking at the front of the vehicle)smoking.  I tried to re-start the engine after the smoking stopped but the engine would not turn over.

We had the vehicle towed on a flatbed to a local service station hoping it might only be an alternator.  We confirmed that there was no alternator problem but the mechanic discovered that the shaft of what appeared to be the ACE pump was bent such that the pulley was wedged against the pump housing.

The mechanic also noted that the ACE resevoir was dry.

Questions:

1) Does the ACE pump require oil from the ACE resevoir to maintain lubrication?

2) If yes, could the ACE pump seize and cause the problems above?

3) What do I do to prevent this prblem in future?

Thank you.

Answer
First change who ever is working on the vehicle.
then find some one who knows what there doing.
you have to check if there is a leak in the system.it sounds like there is a problem with the pump, you may need to flush system because of the pump burning out leaves metal particals in system.then you have to look for other leaks if any.
