Land Rover Repair: 1995 DISCOVERY, land rover discovery, gm diesels

Question
I HAVE A 1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY AND JUST RECENTLY IT WAS BUMPED WHILE PARKED AND NOW IT DOESN'T START. I NOTICED THERE WAS A FUEL CUT OF SWITCH THAT I HAVE TRIED TO RESET, THEN BYPASSED IT. IS THERE ANY OTHER MECHANISM THAT HAS TO BE RESET. COULD THE ALARM SYSTEM ALSO BE ACTIVATED TO CAUSE THIS FUEL CUT OFF.

IS THERE A DIESEL ENGINE FOR THIS MODEL AND BESIDES THE ENGINE WHAT ELSE HAS TO BE CONVERTED OR CHANGED TO CONVERT THE ENGINE TO DIESEL BECAUSE MY EXISTING ENGINE HAS A SLIPPED SLEEVE.
THANK YOU FOR YOU ADVICE

Answer
Hi Tom,

Yes, there is a fuel cutoff switch (Inertia switch) that is triggered by the sensors after an accident.  All part of the security package.  '95 elec. manual:

Inertia Switch
An inertia switch is incorporated in the Theft Alarm
Unit (Z163). If ignition is on and the vehicle
receives an impact sufficient to activate the inertia
switch, the unit will signal to unlock central locking
actuators and flash hazard lights. Central locking
will remain disabled for 30 seconds. To reset, turn
ignition off and then on after the 30 second period
has elapsed.

So, Tom, insert key, turn to full ignition position (just before the enging should ignite).  Wait 30 seconds then turn the ignition off. Quickly turn it back on and then try to start your engine.

Someone mentioned that the actual inertia switch is located behind the windsheild waterfluid reservoir.

I know that that the electrics are in the driver footwell area ( marked Z163 on our model).

There are diesel models Tdi for the '95 Disco.  I have heard of owners using various engines from Toyota, other Series LR's and even GM diesels.  Best bet is to swap for a LR engine...less hassle with adapters and mounts.

My suggestion to you is to go to the Discoweb site and post your question there.  You'll get the chance to meet other owners who have converted engines before.  I am still using my original engine in my '95 Disco and have yet to consider this problem. Not that I ever want to ...

Tom, go to http://www.discoweb.org/ and select the bulletin board area.  Post your engine conversion Q's there and I'm sure you'll get some experienced responses.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
