Land Rover Repair: Disco Brakes, rubber gasket, loose wire

Question
Can you recommend aftermarket brake pads, dealer pads seem ridiculous at $400 a set. Is there an easy troubleshoot for a door window that doesn't operate, fuse, loose wire...
Thanks for your help
Russ

Answer
Hi Russ,

for brakes, I can recommend Raybestos pads and rotors. I use them on my '95 Disco and the price is a fraction of the dealers.  You'll have to buy the pins and springs from the dealer but this is just a few dollars.  Raybestos semi-metallics are about $45 for front (LH & RH) and same price for the rear (LH & RH).  Rotors sell for about $60 each.

If you are having trouble with a door window, you may want to take the door panel off and inspect the framing.  Is the window jammed?  Rust and invade and cause the window to be pushed out from the support bracket.  There is a rubber gasket but I've see the rust so bad that the rubber gasket was pulled out and dangling from one side.

If its not a jammed window, you are looking at either a faulty actuator (window motor) or its the switch.  You'll need a multimeter to determine if 12volts are getting to the motor.  Probe backwards from that point to see where the trouble lies.  A dealer will charge you at least $85 to find the problem then charge you for the repair & parts.  Can easily run up to $300 per window.

I know, they did this to me...but only once.  I do the work now.

Best of luck,
