Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco, vacuum pump, component one

Question
I have had some brake problems with my 97 Disco. I took it to a local shop and they said I needed, new master cylinder, front rotors and pads, and reseal the pistons in the front calipers. I brought it back to my driveway and performed all the recommended repairs along with bleeding all 4 calipers. But, my problem still persists. The brakes basically go down all the way to the floor and then only brakes about 5% of what normal braking would be. Even if you pump them the same result happens, no brakes. What should I do next? Thanks for your help. -Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

this could be the brake vacuum pump.  According to other owners, this is not a serviceable component.  One owner stated that to replace it, the No. 1 cylinder at TDC (Top Dead Centre) with No. 1 piston at the top of it's stroke.  Also, the bolts should be tightened to 25Nm and should be tightened by opposites to pull it in and sit it evenly.

Best of luck,
