Answer
Hi Joseph,

it depends on the model of LR.  The mileage is not bad for a 14+ year old 4x4.  With that in mind, the engine could need some rebuilding.  You may want to take the LR to a dealer and have them perform a complete evaluation for you. Cost: $100+  but ROI is peace of mind!  Major engine repairs can cost you $1000's!

Since its a 4x4, you'll have to check the axles and steering systems thoroughly.  Just one CV joint repair bill can cost upwards of $2000.

What is the suspension like?  Does it sit well in the parking lot?  Does it ride well or feel too heavy?  Again, a dealer could tell you this for around $100 or so.

Replacing the AC compressor could around $1000, unless you find one at a wrecker.

The sunroofs are also around $1000 or so to repair. You may want to find a local wrecker who can supply you with parts at a more reasonable price.   The internet is great for that too!

It really depends on how confident you are at doing your own repairs, find parts at good prices and then finding the time and place to do the repairs.  If you have deep pockets, you can have the dealer or local euro-mechanics work on it.  Better warranties but higher prices.

Check the interior for water leaks.  Most LR's have them around the passenger footwells and both sides of the rear door.  The windshield is a major point of water ingress as are the alpine windows.  The hinges on the rear doors are often weakened over time.  Check there too.

I wish you luck and hope this LR is not a 'money pit'.
