Land Rover Repair: O.E vs. Universal O2 Sensor, oxygen sensor, hi adam

Question
I am in need of the O2 sensor for my 95 landy disco 1 and found them at www.autoparts.com they have an o.e. set for $230 and a universal set for $92 which would be better or will it work the same?

Answer
Hi Adam,

changing your O2 sensor should be easy to do...its just a question of where its located and getting the tool into the area.   As far as which one to buy...well...the OEM part is usually wired exactly for our Disco.  The universal part (like most parts in this category) may have to be adjusted in some way to fit.  IT might be as simple as crimping a wire or as complicated as cutting a plastic housing in order to match the mating end.

Have you tried Oxygen Sensor.com? www.oxygensensors.com

They have our sensors AND better yet, they have exact photos that show the difference between the OEM and univeral sensor.  You'll note that they include crimp tabs with the universal sensor (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
Check this website out before you decide.

Also, Specialized British Recycling can find used O2 sensors and other parts. www.britishrecycling.com
Might save you some $$$  I've bought used parts and have save 000's.

Best of luck,
