Land Rover Repair: 96 Land Rover Discovery SE7, land rover discovery, spark plug wires

Question
Just bought the car everything seemed fine.  Next day driving around on the freeway as soon as I went over 75mph the car started jerking as if I was tapping the gas pedal.  Third day I notice 3 small drops of oil or some kind of black yuck on the garage floor.  I look up under the car and it is caked with this gunk.  God help me I fell in love with this car but paid cash that I had worked very hard for.  Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Answer
Hi Christine,

Land rovers do mark their spot sometimes. It is probably an oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, or power steering hoses. All real common. The bucking bronco could possibly be one of a couple of things. Do you have a check engine light on. The bucking could be Spark Plugs and wires. If this bucking goes away when you reduce your speed There is a speed sensor mounted on the transmission that gives this problem.

Now if there is no check engine light, The fuel filter could be the culprit.

If it were myself and just bout the car. I would call Atlantic British 1-800-533-2210 and order the Spark plug wires, Spark Plugs, and fuel filter. If you are mechanically inclined the plugs and wires aren't too bad to do it yourself. The fuel filter is a pain in the butt.

Any competent garage can replace these parts.

plugs, wires and filter, labor cost  about 3 hours 200-250
oil pan labor 155
valve cover gaskets both sides 300
power steering hoses labor all three 230 hose cost from Atlantic British 200

I know i have given you a lot of info. Hopefully it helps.

If you need any more let me know.

Good luck,
