Land Rover Repair: 1994 Land Rover Disco., throttle position sensor, spark plugs

Question
My 1994 Disco has recently started idiling rough when it is first started in the am.  The temp outside is warm (60-70's).  It is also very sluggish when the accelerator is depressed.  After driving for 10-15 mins it seems to get better.  Any ideas before I pay $80 per hour at the dealer!

Answer
Hi Rick,

could be your TPS (throttle position sensor) or spark amplifier module.  These have been known to give early model Disco Series I owners headaches.  My '95 had such a problem and it was attributed to the TPS. Had to be replaced : total LR dealer bill $585

Other possibilities could be spark plugs and wires, alternator or loose belts (serpentine?).

You cold spend more money throwing possible fixes than if you took it to a euro-mechanic and have them examine and isolate the problem.  LR dealers are expensive but they find the problem quickly...most of the times.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
