Lexus Repair: 1994 GS300 Lexus, valve seals, toyota service

Question
I am currently may be having a oil burning problem - with a very small oil leak.  The car has 168,000 miles on it and I was wondering if this is a typical lexus problem.  I'm told I need to drive it for 500 miles or so to see if it is in fact burning oil which means it's the motor!  It passed smog with a high emissions of 81.  It also needs a steering rack, but the main concern is the oil.  Is there any other way to find out if there is a problem with the motor or is driving it the only way?  Please help.  Thanks

Answer
Hello Marie,
This is a very typical problem on the 2jz-ge.  The valve seals need replacement.  This job can range from $900-$1500.
