Lexus Repair: Replacing PS pump on Lexus 2001 Rx300, electro hydraulics, factory service manuals

Question
I'm about to replace the PS pump on my RX300 following the directions and diagrams from ALLDATA.Any additonal guidance and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
When you hear of people flushing the fluid. *DO NOT* do it with the engine running, or you'll have a powersteering rack full of air that may not be purged & operating for weeks.
You jack the front of the vehicle up & put it on jackstands. Unhook the resevior lines. One line goes to fresh fluid (say 2 quarts to be safe), the other goes to a bucket for old fluid. Turn the wheel from one lock to the other (it will be easy off the ground).

About 3-4 minutes of that & beautiful, fresh fluid will begin to pump out into the used container instead of nasty 10 year old fluid.

Changing just the pump is straight forward. Remove the belt & unhook the electro-hydraulics from it. Unbolt the pump & replace it. Plug the lines when you unhook them so they don't drain out all your fluid.
