Lexus Repair: LEXUS GS400 - Timing belt, denso spark plugs, lexus gs400

Question
Hi, I am about to buy a Lexus GS400. It has 107000 miles on it and I am going to buy it for $11000. The car is very good shape, but the guy hasnt done anything to it as in change the timing belt or anything like that. Can you tell me what i will have to change and do since it has over 100000miles on it? And is the price fair that he is charging me?

Answer
Yes. You need to change the belt & water pump every 90,000 miles. In your case change the accessory belt<s>, change the thermostat & any pressure caps.

I would *grossly* advise you to have Toyota change the transmission fluid like... Tomorrow. More than 90% of automatic transmission failures are due solely to overheated fluid, or a lack of fluid period.

I'd flush the oil out with something like Seafoam & then get the oil changed the next day. 5w-30 Mobil1 oil. Toyota/Lexus ahs cleared that engine family for use with the new specification high end 5w-20 oils also if you want to try that. (Use a synthetic tho). Walmart has great buys on 5 quart jugs of mobil1.

Always use a high quality filter. The OEM Toyota/Lexus Denso filters have very high filtration rates. Wix/Purolator filters are tip-top awesome also.

The oil change interval is 4,500 miles for the sever schedule & 7,500 miles for the normal schedule. READ YOUR MANUAL CAREFULLY to decide which schedule you fall under. That particular engine is fairly easy on breaking down oil & wearing, but poor oils wills till break-down at 4,500 miles. Good normal oils will begin breaking down @ 4,500 miles. & top quality sythetic oils (AMSoil, Mobil1) typical test in oil anylisis as not signifigantly breaking down until after 10,000 miles.
Keep in mind oil filters are useless after 7,500 miles...

I digress. Always change the oil however often you're suppose to. Periodic flushings are nice. Changing the transmission fluid is ungodly important to transmissin life on any vehicle.

And ONLY use NGK, or DENSO spark plugs.......
