Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 2000 lincoln Ls Transmission, 2000 lincoln ls, lincoln ls

Question
I have a 2000 Lincoln Ls with 90,000 miles. just recently when I shifted into reverse gear, I heard a loud bang sound from the rear of the vehicle. and the transmission disengaged from  reverse gear. I also got an E on the dashboard were the gear display is instead of an R or D. The car does goes into drive but not reverse. I had the onboard computer scan and it gave a P0795 Code Pressure solenoid C. I changed the solenoid body but is still not applying reverse. can you help me with this problem.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Frank,

I would say that your reverse planet blew out on you. You will need to have your transmission overhauled and that part replaced. I would not trust this to the dealer @$4500, but try a national brand. Cottman is generally less expensive than Aamco. Expect to pay at least $3000 for this repair. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you. Incidentally, solenoid "c" is the 3-4 shift solenoid.
