Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Service engine soon chimes, computer diagnosis, lincoln towncar

Question
Dear Ginger,

I have a 2000 Lincoln Towncar. About a month ago, Service Engine Soon Light illuminated whenever the ignition was first turned to ON position and remained on after the vehicle was started. Two weeks later, the Service Engine Soon light disappeared but CHIMES came out instead whenever the vehicle was started. The chimes rung 5 times each, totally 25 times, and stopped afterwards. The chimes repeated the same after about 30 miles driving, then stopped. I couldn't feel anything wrong when driving though.

As the vehicle is in China, where is less of mechanics or appropriate computer diagnosis, I come here and ask you for assistance. I'll appreciate it very much if you could give me some specific suggestions.

Sincerely,

Dennis

Answer
That light is telling you to take your car in to a shop. The light is triggered by literally dozens of sensors in the car including the transmission. If it is ignored, then what could have been repair easily will turn into a disaster. Have your car scanned and resubmit to me the code numbers so I can tell you what needs to be repaired. Don't wait to long.
