Lincoln/Mercury Repair: transmission 98 sable, cottman transmission center, magic potions

Question
The transmission on the 98 Sable 4 door is acting a bit sluggish, especially between reverse and drive, as opposed to park and drive. I also think it is making a more pronounce whining sound, but I could be paranoid.
Is there an additive or something I can do on the cheap to prolong the life of the transmission? I don't want to put big money into her, but can't afford to get a new car at the moment

Sorry, but there are no magic potions in a bottle that will take care of this issue. These are the signs of emminent transmission failure. Don't change the fluid! This will cause an immediate failure. Just drive it easy, but I am afraid that the seals inside are becoming worn and the transmission will require an overhaul very soon. If you have a Cottman Transmission Center near you, I suggest you take it there. Expect the repair to run around $1800. Again, sorry...
