Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Grand Marquis EATC, mercury grand marquis, automatic temperature control

Question
1995 Mercury Grand Marquis...MY EATC(Electronic Automatic Temperature Control) in my grand marquis was getting hot and blowing my 15A fuse #8 where the radio and courtesy lights connect. I replaced with a 20A and the EATC went completly out. Before this i had no fuse in #8 and the A/C worked perfect, i know the unit needs to be replaced but is there a fused link or any other fuse that could have blown in addition to the EATC going out? Or did the unit just burn up?....Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Answer
Hey Andre

It looks like you have fried the EATC. It probably has a short internally and blowing the fuse is sort of a warning that attention was needed in that area. The unit is designed to take no more than 15 amps and putting a larger fuse in it can cause damage to the ECU as well. A direct short can carry as much as 85 amps or the amps the alternator achieves. Which in turn can make things pretty hot! hehehe
