Lincoln/Mercury Repair: AC compressor, triple digits, greasey

GO SOX! I have a low mileage 94 Town Car that has just developed a terrible screech when I turn on the kick-a** AC. I want it to be a belt not the compressor. 36 straight days of triple digits means constant use. Is it just overworked?

Hi Katherine! Damn those Yankees! I would love to tell you that it is just the belt. And it could be! I suggest you change it straight away! But the unfortunate truth is it is likely the compressor. There is a bearing underneith the clutch part that is probably going south, like our Red Sox. Try the belt first. It could be worn out and when they get hot they get a little greasey. Now if you told me there is thread showing through then for sure it's the belt. Let me know how it turns out! I hope we won't need a trip to the bull-pin!
