Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1989 Merc Grand Marquis wont start, mass air flow sensor, air flow sensor

Question
We replaced 4 sensors, one was a temperature sensor of some sort, the other 3, not sure what they were, we are just finding them on the motor and replacing them, we havent been able to locate the MAF Sensor yet. I drove the car yesterday, it frove like a dream, seemed to drive even better than ever if possible, turned it off, restarted it about 5 times, let it set 30  mins, it cranked and tried, but wouldnt start. check engine light still on also, when it gets warmed up, need more help please!  Also, this is a rural town, no one with a computer to do diagnostics, so its difficult, but hate to give up, we have so much in this car in just 2 weeks, could we have gotten a bad fuel pump? or could it be the fuel pump relay, being  intermittent? just wondering, your advice?  thanks!

Hi, this is in reply, my initial question is at the bottom:
It will crank ALL THE TIME, hot or cold, it just won't start warm. Could it be a sensor somewhere?
thanks for your help

Hi Kat,

Yes, I feel this is a Mass Air Flow sensor or MAFS for short. I would imagine there is a check engine light on when the car is running. There are literially dozens of sensors connected to the check engine light and this could be a number of different sensors causing the problem. But for sure, this is a sensor problem. I suggest that you run your car over to your most trusted garage and have him scan it for Diagnostic Trouble Codes, DTCs for short. If you trust him and the repair is inexpensive AND guarenteed, them have him do it. If it sounds the least bit fishy to you, then resubmit to me with the code numbers. Please don't give me the discription without the code numbers. Easy stuff! We'll get it fixed. Keep me posted.

Answer
Hi Kat,

The Mass Air Flow sensor is located at the air cleaner box in the air intake tube. It will have a plug in it with 3 or 4 wires. It could also be a fuel pump, maybe. With these newer cars there are just to many sensors to try and guess. It might be worth the hassle to take it to town and have someone scan it for you so we can have a direction to go in.
