Our check engine light has been on for many months.  When we last had it inspected they got it to go out but not long after it went back on.  We also can not get our driver side window to go up. We checked the fuses but we can't see where the fuse for the windows are.

Hi Liz,

Who ever "inspected" your car and turned the light off should have fixed it rather than doing nothing. You can turn the light off yourself by disconnecting the battery for 5 seconds and reconnecting. The issue is that the onboard computer sees a problem and it needs to be taken care of. There are dozens of things connected to the check engine light and ignoring these can spell disaster. First thing we need to do is get the codes stored in the cars computer. If you take your car to a Cottman Transmission shop, they will scan it for free. Please resubmit your question to me with the year, model, any drivibility issues you may be experiencing and what codes are stored. I have seen many transmissions burned up because the person didn't have time to have the CEL (Check Engine Light) diagnosed. The window could be a bad connection, as was with mine last October, or a bad switch. It's likely a bad connection and the best place I have found to diagnose this is an auto glass company. They usually don't charge for this unless they fix it. But they are gererally the least expensive. Hope this helps. Please resubmit with the info. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Liz,

Please take time to have a local garage or a Cottman Transmission scan your car for the DTC that is causing the CEL to come on. I bet you would like to have that window working so stop by an autoglass shop and have the guys there look at the switch in the door and check the connection to the window motor. If the switch is ok and the connection is good then you'll need a power window motor. A used one from your local wrecking yard should do fine. resubmit with the DTC. Thank you!
