Lincoln/Mercury Repair: oil pump replacement, lincoln town car, oil pump

Question
We have a 1993 lincoln town car with 83,000 miles.  The oil pump needs to be replaced and the mechanic said that the engine needs to be pulled to replace the pump, he also said that it would be easier to replace the engine but that any rebuilt engine would fail because the tolerances and so small.   thank you for the information

Answer
hello jim
the motor does not have to be pulled the motor mounts have to come out so the motor can be raised 3 inches then you can reomove the oil pan. if your motor is not knocking then it is ok. just have him change the oil pump u should be ok and i would look for another mech. good luck to u jim and if u need more help just let me know .
