Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1991 Lincoln Town Car, lincoln town car, railroad track

Question
Hi Pete,
I have a 1991 Lincoln Town Car that is having a sporadic problem that my mechanic can't seem to find.  It runs fine for an hour sometimes less sometimes more but it will all of sudden act like it is not getting any gas.  I can pump the gas or hold the pedal down and it will just keep gradually slowing down but the engine is still running.  Sometimes it will all of a sudden kick in and I'll take off other times I have to shift into neutral turn it off and back on and it will run fine.  This happens at different speeds.  It's gotten to the point I am afraid to drive it because I can be doing 65 on the beltway and it will act up like this. Sometimes going over a railroad track or a bump will cause it to happen too.  My mechanic isn't able to get any diagnostics from it so he adivsed me to have the dealership check if they can get any diagnostics.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary
