Mazda Repair: Air bag light, diagnostic module, system fault

Question
1991 RX7 air bag light started flashing? (not all the time & not in any special count I don't think)
Will the air bag go off & what is wrong? Thank you.

Answer
The air bag will not deploy on it's own, the system has built in redundencies more than one event must occur for the system to activate.  Both crash impact of a sensor and rapid deceleration as detected by the speed sensor.

The light is flashing to warn you that a system fault exists.  It will either be lit solid or will flash a given number of times with a pause between each fault code or before it repeats the same code.  (ie: 10 flashes then pause then 10 flashes, or a multiple code or 3 flashes then pause then 5 flashes then pause then a repeat).

Watch it for a period of days to see if a regular pattern develops.  It should.  Normally when erratic patterns occur it is a sign that the SRS diagnostic module is failing.  If it does develop a set pattern email me back and I let you know what it is trying to tell you.
